Do You Need Lifeguards To Swim In Coney Island?
Jason P asked:
On the Coney Island website, it says that the beach is open year round. But it says lifeguards are only on duty from Memorial Day – Labor Day. Does that mean you can only swim from those days on, or do they have that “Swim At Your Own Risk” rule?

Swim at your own risk ” means exactly that
You can swim in the ocean anytime of the year But if you start to drown then you’re on your own.
I don’t what your ocean swimming experience is But until you get familiar with the water off of CI approach it with caution and know how to recognise and properly handle riptides before you go swimming
ew why would u want to swim there?
Actually.. at Coney island.. it means that police or other agents, CAN ask you to get out of the water.
It’s not a “Swim at your own risk” rule. It’s the beach is closed. Don’t go in the water.
It’s an insurance issue.
The beach on Coney Island is open year, however, if you plan to swim during the off season, which after Labor Day when the Lifeguards are off duty for the season, you’re on your own.
Good luck
