From midtown, Coney Island is about 35-40 minutes by train (the D, F, N, and Q all go there, and you can get all of those lines at 34th Street – Herald Square).
I don’t think there will be much for you to see or do there at this time of year, aside from maybe the Aquarium. It’s relatively safe, but I don’t think it would be worth the ride, unless you want to just look at the Cyclone. Plus, depending on how the weather will be next month, it can get very cold there since it’s right near the ocean (duh).
It is about 40 min away. It is safe, it is great for walks on the beach and visit to Aquarium
At this time, there is not much to see in Coney Island. They’re working on reconstructing everything.
It actually takes about an hour to get to Coney Island from midtown . Obviously, summer is the best time to go, but it’s pleasant to walk on the boardwalk even on a nice winter day and see the beach and see the sights. The Aquarium is open year-round (free admission on Friday afternoons from 3 until closing. Check their website for hours) and, of course, Nathan’s is always open, as well as other restaurants and places to get treats. And, yes, it’s relatively safe. Have fun!
