When Does Coney Island/Astroland Close for Good?

Man with the Plan asked:


I want to bring my girlfriend over to Coney Island/Astroland before it closes for good this year and season. However, she won’t be able to go this on August, because she’ll be gone for the whole month, so I plan on taking her to Coney Island in the beginning of September, the week after Labor Day. I know it closes in September, but I’m not sure when.

And if I do take her in September, will the rides still be open and we’ll be able to ride them? And will the freak show still be around?

My friend, I believe the rides at Astroland don’t shut down until late September/early October. No need to worry.

According to the web-site that Native New Yorker provided, the Astroland Park is open every day until September 3, weather permitting. After that, it will be open on weekends only from September 8 until an unspecified date – probably also based on the weather.

A lot of Coney Island amusements were shut down in 2007, the area is being re-zoned for condos. However, there were public protests, and a lot of people turned out in 2007 because they thought it would be Coney’s last year as an amusement park. As a result, Coney Island had it’s most successful year ever, and Astroland was re-opened for 2008, and possibly beyond.

The Coney Island Circus SideShow is Wed. thru Sunday until Labor Day, and then after that it’s weekends-only until the last weekend in September.
