Yahoo Group, Park Slope Parents is Now Charging a $25 Monthly Access Fee – is This Allowed?
Tina Louise asked:
Park Slope Parents is a yahoo group based in Brooklyn, New York – they have become a great resource for the community and most of their content has been created by community feedback – now they are about to capitalize on this and start chargong a monthly fee for access – doesn’t this go against Yahoo Groups terms of service?

Yahoo a few years back attempted to allow groups to chrge for membership, it didn’t go too far- people jus joined groups that didn’t have a fee. some where is TOS is something about not profiting via a yahoo group.
Request for Feedback: Modifying the Guideline Prohibiting the Use of Groups for Commercial or Advertising Purposes
I see nothing in Yahoo’s Terms Of Service that restricts groups for charging for access. I do see a restriction against commercial use but that wouldn’t stop, for example, a neighborhood association such as the example you mention unless it is actually trying to turn a profit. And the name of the group you mention doesn’t sound like a for-profit group.
