I think it was here where I read Coney Island was closing soon, is it closing this year?
what about by subway..is there a stop near it?, can you get off the subway and be within walking distance to Coney?
And is it worth seeing etc

My two favorite have to be Spuyten Duyvil in my neighborhood of Williamsburg, Brooklyn……

Also, Zum Schneider in the East Village serves litre steins of great german beer (i always opt for the Spaten Optimator or their wheat beer of the day)

I’ll be starting work in NYC (in the financial district) later this fall after I graduate. I’m trying to get advice on what area I should move to (I’ll be coming in from out-of-state). I’m considering living in Brooklyn instead of NYC in order to save some money.
Preferences:
-Rent no more than $1400/month
-No more than 20-25 min. away from the Financial District
-Safe area
-Possibly good shopping/interesting attractions
Right now it seems like Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, and Bay Ridge are good options. I’m open to other suggestions.
Also, if you give any suggestions, can you please be specific about the particular areas (ex. stating street numbers) so I can know where to look for housing? I understand that some areas of a city can be shady while others are pretty safe.

Hey everyone, I’m moving to nyc next fall from upstate and want to live in a strong italian neighborhood that has a reasonable/short commute to manhattan. I know there are pockets in all the boroughs, but give me your opinions. My family grew up in bushwick brooklyn in its italian hey day. Grazie.

Goddamn man, way to freak out.
First off, is it so wrong of me to want to live in a neighborhood that is of a people/culture that I love? Excuse me for not wanting to move to Harlem or Brownsville where I would be treated like a piece of shit. I have been to the city many times so please don’t act like i’m dreaming here. My cousin teaches in the bronx and gets shit on nearly every day walking to school asshole, be it slurs or things thrown at him.
So once again, I am sorry I want to live in a neighborhood that has pride and is safe rather than one filled with drugs, violence and crime.
Obviously I have no problem living in the majority of Manhattan as I UNDERSTAND it is a huge melting pot which is awesome! But if I go to a burrow it isn’t the same. The neighborhood means a lot more.
I am leaving this open to hopefully get a POSITIVE response.
